Why Women Seek Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation

Why Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?

After childbirth, many women may find themselves experiencing a decrease in sexual gratification. This is primarily due to loss of vaginal muscle tone. Some women may feel uneasy about the appearance of their vaginal area. Laser vaginal rejuvenation can help these women to feel more comfortable, and experience more pleasure, with their most intimate areas.

What is Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a procedure that improves the muscle tone of the vaginal canal, resulting in better control and strength. The perineum is strengthened as the vaginal diameter is decreased from improved muscle tone. This is a nearly bloodless procedure, where small and exact cuts are carefully executed by laser. Most women heal swiftly, experiencing an abbreviated leave of absence from their everyday lives. As with any surgery, it is important to undergo a thorough health evaluation prior to scheduling the rejuvenation. Also, patients must consult with their physicians as to what results can realistically be achieved.

Preparing for the Procedure

As mentioned previously, patients need to undergo a detailed evaluation by their physician. It is important that all previous health history is disclosed, as well as any medications that are being taken. This also applies to natural supplements and vitamins. For example, Vitamin E acts as a mild blood-thinner when ingested. Thus, even seemingly innocuous supplements could cause procedural complications if not disclosed. Patients may need to stop taking certain prescribed or over-the-counter medications, as directed by their physician.

Finally, the patient needs to focus on maintaining optimal health for 2 weeks leading up to their procedure. This includes stopping smoking, drastically limiting alcohol intake and focusing on proper hydration. Also, the patient is advised to rest as much as possible before the operation.

The Procedure

Vaginal rejuvenation is performed as an outpatient procedure. Patients receive a pudendal nerve block, which numbs the entire vulval and vaginal region. Patients will receive a sedative that is delivered through an IV during the procedure. Other anesthetic options are available if needed, such twilight sedation or general anesthesia.

During the actual procedure, only lasers are used to do any cutting or dissecting. Surgeons may elect to strategically place sutures to further tighten muscles as needed, or as requested by the patient. The surgery is predicted to last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, with a recovery period of roughly the same time. The patient is then released, ready to heal at home.

Post-Operative Care

Swelling, bruising and tenderness in the area is to be expected, as with any surgical procedure. The vaginal cavity is packed with a gauze dressing, which is to be removed the following day. The patient will need to ice the area intermittently for the first 48 hours, to reduce pain and swelling. For additional relief, the patient will be prescribed pain medication to control further discomfort.

It is normal to be up and walking around the day following the procedure. Showering is not advised until the second or third post-op day, and tight fitting clothing should be avoided for about a month. The patient can engage in light physical activity after 3 weeks. She should take care to avoid any strenuous activity for 6 weeks, including sexual intercourse.

Women seek vaginal rejuvenation surgery for a plethora of personal and diverse reasons. Women deserve a gratifying sexual life, as well as a genital appearance with which they feel comfortable. This procedure affords women the opportunity to safely satisfy their desire for a more pleasurable, aesthetically pleasing vaginal region.
